Power BI v Tableau – Radar Chart Comparison

I spent the Australia Day public holiday exploring the radar chart. Whilst searching for a dataset I came across one for Scotch Whiskies and having an appreciation for the odd wee dram I decided to use it.

Power BI radar chart

First, I created it in Power BI, but as I don't have a personal license (in order to share) I then recreated it in Tableau.

What I discovered is:
the JSON file was easier to unpack in Power BI. In fact, I ended up exporting my processed data from Power BI into a CSV to use in Tableau;
the visual was easier in Power BI with just drag and drop, no calculated fields for angles, and distance from centre, etc;
in Power BI it was one visual, whereas in Tableau it was 3 visuals (the polygon, the labels, and the ‘spiderweb' created in PowerPoint) that I then had to line up as best I could.

Power BI and Tableau each have their strengths and weaknesses. This time Power BI came out on top.
